Every morning before sunrise, Pete’s out on the farm with his dog Tui, checking on his free range chickens. The land’s been in his family for over 50 years, and he reckons the birds know when it’s going to rain before the MetService does.
He runs a tight ship – fresh air, green grass, and happy chickens roaming free. “No mucking about,” Pete says. “You look after the land and the animals, and they’ll look after you.”
Jo is a forward-thinking farmer who believes in working with nature, not against it. That’s why he’s integrated solar panels into his farm operations, using clean energy from the sun to power key parts of his daily routine - like keeping the water systems running and reducing his reliance on the grid.
His chickens roam freely under open skies, and his commitment to sustainability ensures the farm is well cared for – now and for future generations. “As farmers, we have a responsibility to lead by example,” Jo says. “Harnessing the sun just makes sense.”
